15 January 2010 - Almost Spring?

Well, the snow we got last week is about gone now, and you know what that means as far as Barry is concerned -- yup, time to work in the garden.

Pruning one of the peach trees -- the plastic bag serves two purposes. One, it tells us and the Louisville Airport the wind direction; and two, it (we hope) will scare deer away.

Pruning the raspberries comes next. We put up the "T" crossbars last fall and wired them together in hopes of keeping the berries upright and a bit more presentable, as well as making picking easier. The way Barry pruned them, we should get a crop in the spring from the far bed and in the fall from the near bed. The guy's a gardening genius!

The little bit of snow in the photo is now gone though. The temperature never got above 32 for the first 10 days of January -- a very long cold spell for this area. But it's been in the 40s, and actually got up to 56 yesterday.
